Now i can see how some people like using it as a personal diary, which i have no problems with, but when certain people use it to post information, it can get...interesting. It's ok when experts in a field post information on their field for people to view and comment on, but when people who know very little about a certain subject, read something and then just complain about it, that seems rather pointless. People who merely use blogs for ranting doesn't serve a purpose, one persons complaints for everyone else to read can sort of be relevant if people share their views, but by complaining your not going to change anyone else's opinion. See, like this entire blog is just me ranting about people who use blogs for ranting, anyone who reads this isn't going to change their mind on what they think about blogs so ultimately this whole post is rather irrelevant.

Future technology

I was looking around on the internet and i found the story of the "Invisible Man". This was a story about something the Japanese developed that creates the illusion oh a solid object being transparent. A link to the site can be found here: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/02/07/japan.invisible.ap/. Now in this article they mention some of the practical uses for this technology, including surgeons having their fingers be transparent and pilots having transparent floors. Couldn't help but thinking the first thing this will go towards is military vehicles making them invisible and able to strike an enemy without warning. I think this might be one of those inventions that was meant to better society that will ultimately be used as a weapon. Interesting to think about what technology will ultimately do to society.

Future Story

A couple weeks ago we were supposed to read that story about the future where everyone was in a room and through that room they were connected to the world. I thought this was an interesting little story and it reminded me of a book i read a very long time ago called Snow Crash. In this book everyone existed in a virtual world and lived in tiny, dark rooms much like the short story. At the end, the virtual world they existed in crashed and people were brought back to reality and didn't know what to do. This shows the future reliance on technology and how it will be bad for society. Although i don't believe this is a reasonable future, it is certainly likely. I feel that technology will help society rather than be its downfall.

Day light saving time

This is another example of technology being helpful. Most all cell phones have clocks, and some auto update the time to adjust to day light savings time. I had no idea that I was supposed to set my clock ahead an hour and I had to work the sunday following the time change. If it weren't for my cell phone, i would have been an hour late to work and probably gotten in trouble. Goes to show how useful technology really is.

Comm 103 class

I really am not a fan of this whole Comm 103 business. They force you to take this class and they require you to turn in a decent amount of work on a fairly regular basis. This work is not very hard to do, but it is very time consuming. I honestly don't want to spend any time yet alone many hours doing an assignment for a class that I really don't find necessary. This all goes back to the University forcing General Education classes on all college students. I really don't find it necessary to have to take these classes, i think college should train you in the major you wish to be involved in. For example, an English major should be required to take English classes, not math and vice versa. If one wishes to become and English teacher, is it really necessary that they know Calculus? Same with any other major or profession, why force an engineer to take History, or a political science major to take Geology. They say this is to make college graduates well rounded, but what exactly is the point of being familiar with geology if you never wish to do anything involving geology. Colleges should educate students and give them the knowledge they need to do the job they plan on taking in the future.

Ok done ranting now, guess its time to do that stupid communication outline now....

Plagiarism thing

After hearing all of the types of plagiarism and how they occur one thing really stuck out, the idea of self plagiarism. Honestly, that is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If plagiarism is considered to be using someone elses work and passing it off as your own, it shouldn't matter if your using your own work and passing it off as your own...that just doesn't make any sense. If i need to turn in a paper twice for the same topic two different times, I should be allowed to turn in the exact same paper, I wrote an essay on the topic once already, I don't see how turning in the paper again would be cheating. Same with the speech example at a conference. If you are required to lecture on the same thing two different times, why not use the speech you had prepared already, your not stealing anyones work and it's not logically possible to steal something you already own. Just had to get that out there, I'm done now.

My Problem

Ok heres the problem, its 8:30 right now and I have not A LOT but a decent amount of math homework due on thursday, giving me tonight and tomorrow to do it. There are two options here, start now and then finish later, or put it off till tomorrow night and have that be the only thing I do. Using Jones's Pros-Cons-and-Fixes method i can make an informed decision !

Pros for starting tonight:
1.) I will have more free time tomorrow night and it will give me something to do
2.) I get the work done and can relax
3.) Won't have to stay up late working
4.) Can clear up any questions I may have tomorrow with teacher
5.) More likely to get full points on it

Cons for starting tonight:
1.) It involves starting tonight
2.) I lose valuable hours that could be spent playing video games and watching TV
3.) This isn't really a con but I need the lists to be a little more even

Now the pros for starting tomorrow are the opposites of the cons of starting tonight as is the cons for tomorrow are the pros for today.

Here we see it's pretty clear the intelligent and most reasonable decision would be to start tonight due to overwhelming evidence...luckily I have the power to ignore reason completely, making the decision easy that I will start tomorrow. The end.

Math 151 and why its bad

Don't you just love those tests where you kind of look at it and you have absolutely no idea what you supposed to do?
